Thinking & Your Turn

Is this close to representative of the states who are using videoconferencing to connect to content providers and peers for collaborative projects? (in 2007-2008). When I think of the states and provinces that participate in Read Around the Planet, it seems to be close. What do you think? Is a state missing that is using videoconferencing often for content providers and collaborative projects?

Do you think these numbers help explain why it’s hard to find international partner classes for projects and collaborations? Do you think there is more VC in K12 education in other countries; we just haven’t found the way to find them?

I think that part of the reason it’s hard to connect with international partners is because of time zones and scheduling. We have a German immersion school here in Alaska that would be interested in connecting with partner schools in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. But the 10 hour time difference means that it is 5 pm in central Europe when it is only 7 am here. It’s easier for us (time wise) to connect to Australia than it is to reach Europe.

    • I agree that’s definitely part of it Craig! I still want to try a time-delayed collaboration with a recording/streaming device like the Polycom RSS or Codian IP VCR….
